> It works for me
If someone is curious, apart from my computers and my virtual machines, I have also directly seen Kubuntu working this way for some of my friends and an acquaintance of mine.
People can also go to one of the meetings of their nearest LUG (Linux User Group) and see their laptops.
If you want to try it by yourself, there's a "VirtualBox disk image of Kubuntu 11.04 i386 Desktop, stable version" on
https://docs.google.com/folder/d/0B2UJmdRmDlL1VmRWZ3dfaGdJTUU/edit
to conduct experiments on it (for example, to try to update it and see no breakage, etc.) Just don't update it to an upper version of Kubuntu and, before updating a GUI program, close that program.
I usually employ a copy of it as a virtual machine and it works stably, too.
About it, there is a README.txt on the same web address.
If you have any doubt, on this thread you can make questions. Greetings!

Sadly he doesn't have one, he is just getting defense because you pointed out "WORKS FOR ME" is so old its actually got its own meme page..
http://tmrepository.com/trademarks/worksforme/
The really sad part is you can take the excuses that are always trotted out and match every single one to one of the memes at TM repo that have been there for years. The same excuses over and over for the same problems.
In the end I would just point out a few little facts: Dell has to run their own repos, even though they sell Ubuntu on less than a dozen units, why? Ubuntu keeps breaking the drivers.

You've had Walmart, Best Buy, Asus, MSI, all of these companies that tried selling Linux units, all quit, why? same problem, constant breakage meant it was costing more in after sale support than they were making on the units, and between that and the returns they were losing money.

And finally you have system builders like me, that have been royally boned by MSFT on prices, yet we won't use your product, why? Same reason the big guys don't, after sale support was killing me and if I'd have kept selling Linux units I would have had to close my doors.
