You'd think this sort of stuff belonged to the past - but no. Apparently, Microsoft is afraid of Android on its Windows 8 tablets, because Intel has just announced that it will provide no support for Linux on its clover Trail processors. Supposedly, this chip is "designed for Windows 8". What?

If Intel developed a chip line to work specifically with linux would you still be so upset? Are you actually expecting everyone to believe that Intel apparently partnering with Microsoft for a specific product line is outrageous? Have you even bothered to look up what other companies have done or are doing the exact thing?
Care to come out with an example?
Besides if the source is available linux support in slightly longer term means basically universal support.
Exclusivity is exclusive to closed systems world.

Why did you ignore my other questions? I'll repeat one of them again and put it in bold so in case you somehow managed to "over look" it the first time: If Intel developed a chip line to work specifically with linux would you still be so upset?

"The Verge has learned that HTC's Chief Product Officer, Kouji Kodera, left the company last week. Kodera was responsible for HTC's overall product strategy, which makes the departure especially notable on the heels of the global launch of the make-or-break One. It's not just Kodera. Just because something is legal, doesn't mean it's just. Apple, Google, Microsoft, and many more - these companies might not be breaking any laws, but it's obvious to anyone that what they are doing is scummy.

The Verge pointed me to a blog post by Leap Motion - which reveals how their Kinect-like motion control works with Windows 8. "From the second you plug in your Leap Motion Controller, you'll be able to browse the web and interact with your computer just by moving your hands and fingers in the air. With Leap Motion technology and Windows, you can do everything that's possible with multi-touch inputs - without actually touching anything. This also means that existing applications in Windows 7 and 8 will respond to your natural hand and finger movements. Soon, we'll show you how Leap Motion will work with Mac OS X." Quite cool.

PocketNow interviews Marc Dillon, and there's an interesting note about why Jolla is keeping the display properties under wraps: "We're leaving some of those details out because we do understand that there are a lot of really big players in the market and they tend to take certain components in the market and dominate them. We created the ability to actually be able to run Sailfish on multiple hardware displays and be able to swap components, so this is part of the demand and supply planning phase. We are committed to this industrial design which is a 4.5-inch display, an 8 megapixel camera on the back and a front-facing camera at the front, and the exact specs of the display we'll provide when we're close to delivery." Something you rarely hear anything about.

Now "the world would be much worse" is an assumption you must be very insightful - almost omniscient - to make, as it's quite a demanding task to guess how a world without proprietary software would be. Anyway that hypoetical world has absolutely nothing to do with the topic here. It's so far-fetched you must have felt at least on the edge of bad faith writing your comment.
It doesn't take being omniscient to imagine what a world without proprietary software would be like. Stop being so dramatic and ridiculous. Take a look at what advancements have come as a result of proprietary systems, and take a look at what advancements have come as a result of free & open systems. It's not hard to see what drives things. Here's a hint -- it isn't good will & intention, it's profit & economics. Take a look at the world you live in ... people by far do not do things in good faith or for the betterment of society. It's almost comical you think that's far-fetched. It's reality, like it or not.
There has always and will always been suspicion. There will always be someone complaining about something. Because, there will always be those who have and those who have not. Those who get, and those who don't. Again, take a look around you and you'll discover no shortage of companies in all areas of business who act in their own best interests, including when that sometimes means playing hardball -- and yes, even causing damage to competitors in some way. If you hate this kind of behavior, you must hate that you live in a world that revolves around economics.

The vast majority of free-software "supporters" I've been exposed to don't say they just want more choice.. They claim closed software is horrible, evil, all about profit$, harmful, blah blah blah.. I guess we've been exposed to vastly different types of free-software "supporters".
I don't have a personal reality. It would be nice if people could have one but that's not the way the world works. I suppose to someone who has their head in the clouds, reality would sound quite crazy. For people who are aware of it, the response would probably be along the lines of 'yeah, no kidding'.
