From playing around with Gnome 6.6 preview in Fedora 18 alpha, to me it seems that the percieved shortcomings with Gnome 3 are slowly but surely being addressed.
3.6 in places is looking to turn out quite well.
I still think however that the idea to get rid of the taskbar by default was a bad one and the icons on my 20" monitor are far too large (and the tooltip text far too small, but better than before).
Overall though, Gnome 3 getting into a very useable position that could become a better product that Gnome 2.
