Editorial Do you depend on your computer for your living? If so, I'm sure you've thought long and hard about which hardware and software to use. I'd like to explain why I use generic "white boxes" running open source software. These give me a platform I rely on for 100% availability. They also provide a low-cost solution with excellent security and privacy.

I can appreciate the time & thought put into some of these types of articles, even if they don't offer anything new. For every pro-whatever piece written by person A, person B always feels the exact opposite and writes about pro-whatever_else.

After all the complaining about Windows from linux users, and all the complaining about linux from Windows users, and all the complaining about both from people who use both (like myself), it can always be summed up with one single sentence that has been written a million times... Use what best suits your needs. Also, make sure you understand that most hardware & software is YMMV -- even the stuff with a stellar track record.
