And vice versa: there are many indie games that create atmosphere no AAA game will ever achieve.
Braid, Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery, VVVVV, or flash games like Where We Remain, Looming, The Fabulous Screetch (and his Trained Humans), etc. are just a few of those games. Some of them also have a regular story, but with most atmosphere is king.

Because a 50 millionth entry in the CoD line or, you know, DNF are such signs of quality maintream games....
