Linux "I was impressed by the way GoboLinux handled. This distribution clearly has a well-defined identity of its own, and the authors' philosophy shows in every detail of the system. The system is fast, without a grain of bloat in it." GoboLinux' most defining feature is its filesystem layout, which does not follow the Free Standards Group's Filesystem Hierarchy Standard, but is more like OSX' layout.

1) As said zsh is configured to recognize capitalization, so that isn't any problems (at least not for me)
2) Could you elaborate?
3) As for manager, it's new, so it's no wonder it's not "the best tool out there" - yet. I can't see what you mean about the installer though.
4) Even if it breaks often, it's always taken care of within a couple of days in the latest kernel recipe (compilation package, sort of)
5) I have compiled MPlayer without problems on my GoboLinux machine.

Not a big deal. Just a preference. This isn't something that keeps me from Gobo, just adds to it.

2) Could you elaborate?

Some of the scripts like Compile take an approach of assumption about how to do things. And you just feed it clues to help it out. For some things that makes it real easy, but for others it then becomes harder, as it adds additional complexity to learn how to feed it the right clues. Pluse a new layer of tools you must learn.

3) As for manager, it's new, so it's no wonder it's not "the best tool out there" - yet. I can't see what you mean about the installer though.

The install has a strange interface (I was using the text one b/c the graphic one bombed altogether) I kept hitting the wrong key b/c it's not the standard tab/enter form.

4) Even if it breaks often, it's always taken care of within a couple of days in the latest kernel recipe (compilation package, sort of)

Sure. But it seems fragile.

5) I have compiled MPlayer without problems on my GoboLinux machine.

Wish it were the same for me. I might be using it still right now, but that was the tipping point. I did "Compile MPlayer" and it failed. Because of #2 I wasn't sure how to proceed. I wanted to watch a clip and had to reboot into Debain. I never went back.

if you had taken your time to check around a bit rather then go straight for compile and then give up you would have found that there are binary versions of mplayer available as an official package. hell, i think it even comes on the cd...

so it sounds more like an excuse to look down on gobo and push debian then anything else...
