Linux I volunteer as tech support for a small organization. For years we relied on Ubuntu on our desktops, but the users didn't like it when Ubuntu switched to the Unity interface. This article tells about our search for a replacement and why we decided on Xfce running atop Linux Mint.

You can only cater to a users' aversion to educating themselves on how to properly run their software for so lomg before a system becomes useless for doing actual work.

Better to have sane defaults and clear documentation on how to change them then have to unbork things when the systems assumptions on how things should automagically be configured for our convenience to run out to be extremely inconvenient.
