X11, Window Managers Yes it would be nice if X.org could use OpenGL directly for it's display and composition, but to date, nobody has made this possible. Is it wrong for a business to make it so? Since when does developing software for GNU products mean that they aren't allowed to do it privately? If Novell is developing XGL behind closed doors, and paying the developers to build it... Where's the problem?

But Jon that makes no sense, whether Novell worked from an internal CVS or a public CVS tree would make little difference to their developers, I've gotten the impression that the developers are quite happy to develop in the open fashion and the pressure comes from higher up...

Collapse of the public project made it easy for the higher ups to get their way.

This is nothing to do with public community, do you really think Openoffice isn't mostly Sun internal people working in an external repository?

Open Office is different that's a private project trying to go public and no one is showing up to help.
