Windows The Windows registry works like an attic; stuff just keeps getting tossed in there, eventually creating a big, jumbled mess. Rick Cook explains why you need to pay attention to the registry and reviews types of registry tools for doing some spot cleaning.

Yep, but most of the time they don't. And most of the time they left a handful of dll in your system32 too.

And when it's really bad, they left a BIG installer in your user and setting folder... Like 4 times the iTunes installer.

Something is rotten in the Windows install world. Three click (if you don't customise where you put your file...), but three hour too when you want to uninstall :p A total reinstall of Windows is nearly faster :

Agreed with you and the original poster, but MSI does a much better job of this than some of the other installers out there...too bad MSI is so incredibly slow though.

Yes, but MSI has 2 shortcomings that really annoy me.

1.) You can't have 2 MSI files installing at the same time. You get a nasty little error if you do.
2.) It requires the MS Installer Service to be running at all times. Do you really *need* a service waiting around on your "production" server just waiting for you to install the latest greatest new software? Nope.

I guess I'll just stick to apt-get ;)

Try Total Uninstall from http://www.martau.com/
I use the last 2.xx version to install software so I can see what gets installed, and remove leftovers after uninstalling. There are more tools like this around and they're very useful for keeping Windows (mostly) clean.
