Ubuntu, Gentoo and SUSE have XGL in their testing branches.
I am personally using it on Ubuntu dapper and it works beautifully.
Never had a more beautiful desktop.

If you use Ubuntu, Check This forum entry

Enjoy eye candy.

I also tried it out on dapper and the effects are beautiful. However it frequently completely freezes up X and i have to switch of the machine. I have an ATI Mobility X300 and use the flgrx driver. Shame really so not for daily use at the moment (well not for me anyway).

I'm currently using Xgl with ubuntu dapper full-time on an old Athlon 650Mhz with 256mb ram and a geforce2mx (32mb), and it runs quite nicely, I haven't had a problem with crashes so far.

This old machine is kicking some serious ass!
