Nexenta developers announced the availability of NexentaCore 2.0 Alpha1, a Debian Native OpenSolaris environment and platform, based on an Ubuntu “Hardy Heron” base. NexentaCore 2.0 Alpha1 includes almost 3400 packages ported over during the two week “Hardy Hackathon Fest.”
I used to be excited about Nexenta. I started with Alpha 2 and used it on my second PC until memory requirements of the installer were raised to more than the available 256MB.
Now I can’t use it anymore, because my PC (I’m using it for daily work – 450MHz Celeron, 256MB RAM) is way too old and driver support for my notebook is even worse than BSD’s.
It’s a pity.
Yep, NexentaOS requires a little more memory than that
Last week it was the 7th most popular download if you believe distrowatch.com. Lots of power and flexibility for servers AND it looks like many developers are now building their solutions on top of Nexenta apparently because of the advanced packaging plus the Solaris kernel. Any Nexenta users want to chime in?
