Apple today released Mac OS X 10.3.5 via the Software Update preference pane. In addition to Mac OS X 10.3.5, Apple today released Security Update 2004-08-09 via the Mac OS X Software Update preference pane. The update (recommended for all Mac users) delivers several security enhancements and includes an updated version of the libpng. Update: Apple seeds Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger build 8A171.

Both seem to work fine. A macrumors user tested the security patchs’ effectiveness successfully. My powerbook seems more responsive with safari, and I have been told BF1942 has a higher FPS after the nvidia/ati driver upgrades.

If your monitor’s recommended, or highest “usable” res is 1600×1280, I guess that OSX tried to pick that res.

excuse me who ever reported my statement, but those two things are real issues that a lot of people on the iBook boards at apple.com are waiting to see if thy get fixed.
I asked that question in all seriousness. I have 10.3.5 running on my G4 power mac, but have not had the time to get it on my iBook (I am headed to NM in the morning) so if anyone has tried it on an iBook that has a flicker from wake or a sleep of death problem, has it been resolved in this update?
What iBook model are you all talking about with the sleep of death problem. I have a G3 iBook and have never had any problem like that with any version. I don’t even turn my iBook of unless I’m taking it somewhere b/c it just goes to sleep after a few minutes and always wakes up instantly whenever I go back to it.

Not sure what you are talking about. Only time I have a problem if my ibook is left sleeping long enough to drain the battery then I just plug it in and it wakes.
On my 466MHz G4 DA (Digital Audio) with 512Mb PC133 CL2 (Crucial) memory, I notice what seems to be even MORE responsiveness (will it never end? I sure hope not!) in general.
But the best news I noticed is that, for the first time… it correctly identifies my memory as… PC133!!! Yea!
It was always claiming my memory was PC100 before, for reasons I’ll never know, but… I knew it wasn’t possible, because MacOS 9 was correctly identifiying my memeory as PC133 CL2.
At any rate, my system is running EVEN better! Go, Apple! Go!
I’ve got a G3 iBook with 320MB RAM, anyone running a system of a similar flavour? noticed any improvements in speed? responsiveness? any “good things” you’ve noticed?

Update ran smoothly.
I’ve never had any problems with my iBook since I bought it with 10.3.3 but it does seem to be slightly more responsive now.
Funny, I run an update on my win box and wonder what it will screw up but I’ve never had those concerns with Apple
I’ve got a G4 iBook 933 , have not had the flicker or sleep issues at all.
Anyone with a GeForce 5200 (of any flavour, but especially PowerBooks) should jump on this update as it fixes a number of speed-crippling bugs with the 10.3.4 drivers.
No problems here, doesn’t seem faster or slower.

at least with my glxgears test on my TiBook.
ran glxgears before the reboot and started at ~1750 and jumped up to around ~1950 (never over 2000, sometimes down around 1880). after the update pretty consistant ~1950, never below and still not over 2000.
are the nvidia drivers a more substantial update? i’ll have to check out War Craft 3 when i get home to see if that plays any better.
There is a huge improvement with iSync and the SE P800! usually it takes a couple of attempts and even then its touch and go. I erased and uploaded over 100k of contacts on the first go. My P900 is busted so I can’t check if its the same with that. Anyone know?
On my 733 G4 seems to be have improved. I notched all the graphics up to high in the game options and it seems to be running more smoothly than before
No problems to report on my 1.33ghz PowerBook.
The game runs fine so far (always has, even on my old Rage 128 Pro card, but the ATI Radeon I got for $40 on eBay is even better!), but gotta see if it looks or plays any better with the update.
Freeverses’ “Wingnuts” is an awesomely fun game! OSEU (Overhead Shoot ‘Em Up). Plays as smooth as butter!

Graphics are smoother I used to notice slight juddering when moving large windows about, doesn’t seem be there aymore.
Photoshop Elements did seem to have a problem with an automatic download though.
Also am I wrong or is it running slightly hotter? The fan seems a little more active than normal today (12″ PowerBook).
No problems with java applets here, I am afraid. And everything seems to work alright, Bluetooth perhaps a bit better.

No problem on my G3 tower at work. Not sure if I notice anything different at all. Has run at decent speed since 10.3 considering it’s a G3 with 256 MB of RAM.
After installing the 2 updates, my G5 crashed so bad it destroyed my partition, (B nodes missing) after spending 2 hours on the phone with 2 very helpful and knowledable apple support technicians, we concluded that a reformat and reinstall was needed. Painful.
On my Rev B. Power Mac G5 / ATI Radeon 9800 XT 10.3.5 has fixed the infamous 256MB graphics card bug (sometimes a mounted file system, network share, disc won’t put an icon on the desktop even though it is mounted in /Volumes), fonts also look nicer.
On my Rev A iBook G4 it’s business as usual.

I have noticed better response from the graphics card in my G4 tower since updating to 10.3.5 (7M34).
Even better, since updating, when I wake from sleep or exit the screensaver, I am consistently prompted to authenticate (which is what I have set to occur in System Preferences). Before 10.3.5, it would sometimes work, and sometimes not, regardless of the setting I specified.
I also noticed an iSync 1.5 and Java 1.4.2 Update 1 are in Software Update today as well. I guess this week means updates!
I upgraded this morning. I haven’t noticed the flicker anymore on my iBook when waking. I haven’t tried to force the sleep of death yet though.
I’m running a G3 600Mhz iBook w/ 640 MB Ram. I have noticed a definite improvement in responsiveness.
