KMOS, Inc. announced that it has completed all registrations to change its corporate identity to Amiga, Inc. Amiga also announced the launch of AmigaAnywhere version 1.5 and mentions a new Amiga SDK under development. Question 1.1: You have a number of university degrees; a Bachelor of Science, a Master of Science and a Ph.D,. These are impressive credentials and very unusual in the business world where MBAs are commonplace, but little else, could you make a comment on your intellectual development and what led you first into the entertainment industry and then into digital media?
Garry: I worked at The Walt Disney Company before stumbling into academia. My interest in media preceded these degrees. While at Disney I got my masters in the evening due to a side interest I’d developed. I wanted to get into the feature film side of the Company and several times a year I’d ask to be transferred, with the support of my boss and the head of the studio. Each time my request would be denied by the then president of Disney. I was in a four person division that generated more revenue than any division aside from theme parks. His reason was, I was “to valuable” to move. This was a little hard to believe as I wasn’t particularly well paid. One day my boss, who was a great guy, took me to lunch and said, “look, I’m an Executive Vice President of this Company, and I do exactly the same thing you do. As long as you are successful, you’ll never get moved to where you want to be”. Shortly after, I resigned.
Due to some other things I was involved in, USC offered me a scholarship to pursue a doctorate. I studied with Neely Gardner. His expertise was Political and Corporate Strategy, his passion was ethics. I know it sounds like a strange mix in today’s business world but Neely made sense of it. He is (was) the most remarkable person I’ve ever met. He had the greatest impact on my life. What I remember the most is he was totally honest, sometimes brutally so. No one ever asked for feedback from Neely. The one downside, there is no way I can live up to his legacy.
During my seven years in academia I had a hard time writing articles for academic journals. I didn’t think anyone would read them and, to be honest, I didn’t have much to say. Instead, to the dismay of my colleagues, I wrote and produced a couple films aimed at illustrating specific concepts. In a way, I never left media.

Just why? A group of obviously bright people undertaking a massive effort to achieve what exactly?
If it’s for their own personal satisifaction then fine, but as a commercial offering, why would anybody pay for this? What does it do that existing commerical or OSS alternatives have totally failed to address?
Prehaps an MBA might not have gone amiss?
the people making amigaos are amiga users. They do this also for personal satisfication and they think they can achieve something better than microsoft and apple in a few years time. maybe port to cell processors in the future?
With amiga anywhere they think they can make a good profit in the immediate future. Because the technology can already run on millions of gadgets. Now smart phone and pda games.
A 64-Bit exokernel-based Amiga OS on x86-64 would destroy Windows.

Uhm, where does it say it’s not dead? The Amiga is dead, no matter what if this kmos guy bought it like 1 year ago and this is the first we here from him.

MAYBE the new Amiga, Inc. doesn’t give a flip about OS 4 and its high-priced AmigaOne, and can’t do anything about existing contracts or something.

Amiga isnt dead until its users and developers say its dead. Be was unlucky first with Apple and later with Microsoft. Maybe if they continued the bebox they would still be alive.
So first Amiga Inc. sold part of IP to Itec, then Amiga Inc. went bankrupt. In the meantime Itec transformed to KMOS. Now KMOS is new Amiga Inc. with former CEO as “vicepresident of product and market”. Come on it has nothing to do with Amiga, these are just small dirty “business” games.
Amiga Inc. didnt bankrupt after selling amigaos to itec and later KMOS Inc. bought amigaos from itec.
I have used Amiga OS 4.0, it is a nice update and a very fast solution operating system wise. It does not bang the hell out of the harddrive like Windows XP Media Center does on my 3.2 Ghz Pentium 4 PC.

BTW, that video mainly focusses on demonstrating some components which will soon be released and have gone through extensive beta-testing. Some of these components shown include:
– WarpOS emu wrapper: This allows you to run older PPC Amiga software seamlessly with AmigaOS4.

– Petunia JIT: This is a faster seamlessly usable 68k Amiga software emulator than the one which is currently available to ordinary OS4 Developer Pre-release users.
– Warp3D 5.0 – 3D driver system / a low-level API for programmers to access 3D hardware on Amigas. MESA (OpenGL API) can sit on top of Warp3D.
Although it’s great to be able to use your old 68k and PPC Amiga software seamlessly with AmigaOS4, IMO (much) faster OS4 native software does the OS more justice for public demonstrations, at least when showing the OS to people without any Amiga background experience.
All the BeOS/QNX/Zeta/etc users I know who have seen AmigaOS4 multimedia performance using natively written software have been thoroughly impressed:
