Microsoft is trying to push the idea of the Tablet PC in the last few months but sources say that their product won’t be ready for another year, while Apple may already have a tablet product already in the works. There are a lot of rumors flying around recently regarding next week’s MacWorld, but these rumors are mostly about a possible iMac upgrade with an LCD display. Imagination among the Macintosh fans fly though, some even say that this is the reason (more illustrated/rendered screenshots 2, 3 and 4) as to why Apple writes to their web site “Beyond the rumor sites. Way beyond.”. Others, say that the “secret” device that Apple is hiding is actually called iWalk and it is a PDA. In any case, we will know for sure on Monday. Our Take: Personally, all I want to see (and buy) is a iMac G4 600 Mhz with a DVD/CD-RW combo drive and an ATi Radeon VE 32MB, all for $999 USD…
Yeah, a system for that price would be nice. But I refuse to buy a Mac that runs OSX at an “acceptable” speed, which that system would do. Now a 1GHz+ machine for $1500 with all the features you mentioned would be great!
Personally I’d like to see a competitor to Microsoft’s TabletPC … but with a Mac twist.
Well I am trying to figure how real this iWalk really is?! I am thinking about my next purchase which will be targeting the PDA market next and it would be nice to have something really nice from Apple, if not I have plans to get e Handspring Treo with the color screen in the spring. Of course that iPod is been itching my wallet as well and I am very excited about the new iMac (thouch I plan to purchase my mother the next Mac in the family, her old Compaq Presario has seen better days) and I am thinking of a PowerMac QuickSilver G4 in the summer to replace my old iMac, so it will be an expensive year for me maybe, or maybe not… it all depends on Apple and their creative minds!
Note;
I still plan to help out with the BeOS project once Palm finally gives the verdict to BeUnited… I think that BeOS could be the supreme OS it once was again and bring victory to the masses and BeUnited has the know how to do it I think!
They really do need to upgrade the size of the iMac monitor.
A 15 inch screen is really too small (esp. with OS X which needs a lot of desk space). This is part of the problem I have in recommending Macs to friends/family (iMac too small screen, G4 too expensive for non-power users).
Don’t get me wrong I *still* recommend Macs to them but rarely “make the sale”…
The iWalk has been disected by the MacHeads … it’s a very well done fake. Kind of a testament to the Mac community, I’d say … they’re very creative folks sometimes. On the video where you see someone writing on the iWalk, the device moves a little … but the text on the screen doesn’t move with it .. thus a fake. The bootup video also looks incredibly fake, IMO.
So whatever Apple has up their sleeves, it’s no longer definately a PDA. On Apple’s website this morning: “It’s like a backstage pass to the future.” Now this is starting to sound like the Segway HT.
Re: Anon
Or Apple wants you to think it’s a fake
What the hell is the deal with table PC’s does anyone plan to get one?
mlk, can’t really see the point.
