BeBug, the Belgian BeOS User Group, made a trip to YellowTAB’s headquarters in Mannheim, Germany. They talked to various people inside the company, including CEO Bernd Korz. Lots of pictures inside. Elsewhere, HaikuNews has a short interview with the developer who ported the BeOS 3D accelerant to RISC OS.
His name is Korz as much as I can recall.
The slogan says: Assume the power. Longhorn’s slogan should sounds like this: Consume the power.
That’s the cutest little building I’ve ever seen that houses an IT outfit. Talk about village charm; the staff also seems to compliment the environment.
I hope they can figure out those DVD/patent issues. DVD playing capabilities are important to many users.
Agree on both points.
Regarding the building: it also reminds me of Tallin quite a bit.
They mentioned a nice clerk several times in the article. I wonder if they have a photo…
I thought it was Bernd Kotz
oops – sorry! my bad 🙂

Heh, funny; the interview with Simon Wilson came about because OSnews posted the story about RiscOS getting 3d acceleration 2-3 days ago.
Oh, and that top picture of the offices of YellowTAB looks amazingly like the Paradiso club in Amsterdam (includig fence)!
“Heh, funny; the interview with Simon Wilson came about because OSnews posted the story about RiscOS getting 3d acceleration 2-3 days ago.”
The humour is lost on me, but both the interview and the OSNews.com article were about RISC OS and not ‘RiscOS’.
There’s a new BeDoper online.

So i think its a case of its out of our hands for the time being
I told Eugenia allready that the CD is on the way.
Bernd
Jixt added a small interview with Bernd that we did at Mannheim.
You can read about it at: http://www.bebug.be/newsitem.php?index=152&language=3
Many Zeta users are very interesting people. Some of them are constantly bashing against open source and say “open source is not professional”, “open source software is difficult to use”, “Zeta is so much better than open source operating systems”, but when it comes to what runs on Zeta, i.e. Firefox, ffmpeg and not much more, they are immediately surprisingly silent. Interesting.
I’ve never heard any Zeta users bashing opensource before.
Nice article.
During the past weeks I’ve tracked discussions and/or publications about Zeta. As I had been interested in BeOS but never got the chance to work with it I started getting curious about Zeta, it’s easyness and performance – at least at it is usually promised.
Unfortunately there is almost no legal chance to check out a running Zeta system ’cause it seems that although it should be fairly popular in the meantime it happens that I don’t know anyone who currently uses it.
Paying 99,- EUR just to see what an OS “feels” like seems a bit too much to me, although I can understand that the YellowTab guys don’t make Zeta freely available.
Somehow 😉 I got hold of a RC3 version and installed it on and old Athlon of mine. Honestly, the installation and setup process was not what I call smooth. Anyways, when finally running Zeta I was surprised what it made out of my old Athlon and how smooth especially graphics related stuff ran.
Despite of the obvious lack of current hardware support I sincereley hope there’ll be some more comfortable development tools in the near future as they might have particular influence on my decision to finally buy Zeta or not.
And to those guys of you who think I’m still running an “I somehow got hold of”-copy of Zeta: I’m not and I don’t want to cheat on YT.
However, I wish the YT further luck and continue with your good work! Hopefully there’ll be another way of making Zeta more popular in the future than selling it through TV ads?!
