ROX Desktop 2.0 Released

ROX-Filer 2.0.0 has been released. This is a major upgrade to the core component of the ROX Desktop. Use of ROX is centred around the file system, using the same program and interface to manage both applications and data. Originally based on concepts in RISC OS, ROX takes and extends these GUI ideas and merges them with an underlying Unix or Linux system. The release notes have the full story, and the guided tour and screenshots may be useful for new users.

Syllable 0.4.4 Released

The newest version of the Syllable operating system (based on AtheOS) is now available. Changes include: ATA and ATAPI, improved SB Live! and Audigy support, ISO-9660 FS, and a bootable CD (as well as many updates/fixes). Read about it here.

The Iconbar has run a story saying that RISC OS Select 3, the latest version of the RISC OS operating system has been released by RISC OS Ltd. TriangleOS runs under the latest Bochs x86 emulator, ReactOS as well, and now you can run Syllable on it. Regarding Syllable, here is its updated tab-based terminal. On Bochs news, the CVS version now supports SSE/SSE2 emulation. Has anyone tried MenuetOS & SkyOS with the Bochs Vesa patch?

One of the few gripes many users had with QNX RtP was its inability to place icons on the desktop. QNXZone now reports that the first public version of the QNX Desktop has been released. This version supports dragging icons, changing/editing the item's launch command, switch between small/big icons.

LindowsOS 4.0, a Quick Look

FlexBeta got a chance to try out Lindows 4.0. Taking a couple of screenshots, they noticed that over the hood there isn’t much change over the previous version. Lindows continues to abandon the Windows compatibility as it tries to pave the way for Linux to the desktop.
