I used to work with one of the original pioneers of DEC Distributed Transaction Manager otherwise known as DECdtm, this was a truly incredible piece of software meant for high volume traffic and absolute stability required by these systems. Jim Johnson, one of the chief architects for that product went over to MS about 2 years ago to work on the .NET transactional framework, this thing. A wonderful engineer. Incidentally, Gordon Bell, senior fellow at Microsoft, created OpenVMS and Windows NT.
This is a huge move for MS to have this framework available as it allows them to legimately play in the big business market space. Although, without a stable backbone, I don’t see how any of the transactional framework will be of any use. But I heard rumors about a year ago that this transactional framework was outputing millions of empty transactions a second.
damn i miss DEC, heck I even slightly miss COMPAQ, not as much as I miss DEC but anyway….
and has xerox and PARC came out with any “WOWWWEEEE” stuff lately…. M$ has bought everything and killed off the rest
Of course, cisco is worse than M$ at buying and assimilating or just trashing too….
