“Industry sources close to Microsoft’s plans say that certain OEMs will be proved with service pack one as early as the end of this month. System integrators have wanted Microsoft to introduce the service pack for some time. At a system builder conference in Monaco earlier this year, Microsoft was suggesting that it could arrive in September.” Read the report at TheInquirer.
This is about the most stupid article I’ve ever seen.
OEM’s ALWAYS get versions of the software before it’s released, it doesn’t mean that it will be shipping soon, it means Microsoft is providing the OEM’s with the current beta of it’s software to test on it’s upcoming line of systems.
“But, we are told, Microsoft is being forced to ship the product earlier than it wished to because of problems OEMs and integrators have encountered.”
That says it all, it makes absolutely NO sense at all…. why would MS ship it earlier if there are problems with it?
This isn’t a news article, it’s a porrly written editorial based on a purley sensationalistic style in order to attract more hits.
Please, don’t use TheInquierer as a news source.
I agree with you, but your second quote does in fact make sense.
It should be:
“But, we are told, Microsoft is being forced to ship the product earlier than it wished to because of problems OEMs and integrators have encountered” with Windows XP. (not SP1)
But still, Eugenia, don’t use this site anymore.

Better?
So is this like the FreeBSD 4.6 announcement?
It seems to me that Windows articles get little attension on OSnews. Is is just that the articles are dry on content or is it just that most people that come here don’t care about Windows? I would like to see a nice Windows article that would draw as many comments as the MacOS, Linux and FreeBSD ones do. Unlike those other OS’s, Windows probably directly affects everyone who uses computers in some way, so, it should draw more commentary.
You have a very good point, skippy! Windows does touch each and every one of us, whether we realize it or not. And those who make it their business to purvey operating systems would be derelict in their duties if they just ignored Windows.
IMHO the reason why Windows is glossed over here is that the majority of people here don’t really care about operating systems per se. Most are here to take sides, to advertize their brand or to rail against another. This type is pretty easy to pick out because their brand is always infallable, according to them, or their object of hatred is the root of all evil, according to them. Rarely will any of these types be willing to participate in a frank discussion of the strengths and weaknesses of their products. They have made up their minds and closed them tight. And while they will repeat the same dogma over and over, they are quite intolerant of non-dogmatic discourse. By sheer volume, they tend to drive the good conversation away.

And I wouldn’t really call you a sheer volume.
burn!
yes I know this post is childish and devoid of content (downright aolian in these respects), but it made me laugh so neener.
Skippy, you see my point illustrated…
