Microsoft later this year will look to populate the market for Windows Longhorn applications with development tools and the company's own server applications, including long-awaited updates to the Visual Studio programming tool and SQL Server. Also, although Microsoft is still working on the next version of Windows Server, code-named Longhorn and due to ship in 2007, the company already has a team working on Longhorn Release 2 and is looking at the potential feature set for Blackcomb, the version that follows Longhorn.

FreeBSD Release Engineering Team's Scott Long says that the much anticipated and feared 6.0 code freeze is about to begin. Scott says that from June 10 until the release, the number one priority will be to fix all outstanding bugs. They will not release FreeBSD 6.0 until it is ready; he is pretty confident that it will be ready by August 2005.

Most people switching to Linux aren't switching because of the ease of use, or the shiny graphics, or the pretty interface. They switch for a variety of reasons, some would say it lowers the operating cost, some do it to support Free Software, others may do it because of its technical capabilities, etc.
