A new initiative has been started to create a BSD Certification: “The BSD Certification Group was formed in January, 2005 to create a BSD certification program that is recognized as the industry standard for administering BSD systems.” Involved, among others, is Dru Lavigne of ‘BSD Hacks’ fame and David Rhodus (as mentioned on the DragonFlyBSD users list).
I think this is a great idea but the fact there isnt any commercial BSD is going to be some issue. I mean ok this Certification could be distro independent but, it would be great to have a Commercial Distro based one.
Sorry if i have made a mistake and there are commercial distro’s, links would be great

Hopefully it would be widely recognized. I was thinking on doing Solaris in 2-3 years, but if the BSD one gains popularity by that time I’ll be going for it.

Actually there are a handfull of commercial BSDs, like FireFly ( http://www.crescentanchor.com/products/ ). Also I think you just woke up TJ Hawkins – damn you. But I agree it’s a shame BSDi folded.
It would also be interesting to see how they are going to test init script knowledge for example – OpenBSD doesn’t use RcNG AFAIK. There are other differences between the BSDs too.
this is really cool, i want one!
Maybe they’ll test the different knowledge by having different tests for the 4 major BSDs…
Count me in!
Im glad. Now I will be able to earn a cert on my favorite operating systems, can’t wait.
Same here. It’s about time.
and join the email list. All comments welcome. There will be plenty to do once we get rolling.
