Pixel, the image editor that works on just about every platform imaginable (not my TI-83 though, and where’s that Zaurus port?), has been ported to SkyOS, and will be available in the next alpha of the beta or beta of the beta release of SkyOS v5 beta. You can view a screenshot here. This port was possible because of the recent port of the Freepascal compiler 2.0.0 to SkyOS.
Now is this an alpha release of Pixel, or a beta?
Alpha or Beta, that I don’t know.
What I know is that I bought damn software (about a year ago) and it didn’t work (or better said, if crashing is the way of working then one could say it worked as it should).
I didn’t even received damn serial number for it. And what I noticed (on forum) was that I wasn’t the only one. After that I just forgot that until now:) Well… who cares, $50 (or something like that I payed) just isn’t worth bothering for a software that can’t do 2 operations without crashing (at least in that time Linux version would deserve codename Katrina).
Before I bought Pixel, I did take a look at the forums and wondered how this happened. Anyway, I just wanted to say that I bought it and had no problems so far. Received access to the members area after 24 hours. And Pavel has been very responsive and friendly. All the bugs which I’ve submitted were fixed.
Pixel works on Plan 9 and Inferno too?
I remember a SkyOS forum post about how easy Pixel would be to port (only a couple of hours) once freepascal was ported. I’m surprised it took a few days! Nonetheless, this is a cool app and it’s always nice when minority OSs get more apps.

It is kind of weird for me to see 2 german words in thsi all english desktop, now I wonder why.
Is this a partially translated version or just plain wrong?
i will repurchase the program jsut for this
This port was not possible only because of compiler. That app is pretty well damn good written. That guy wrote his own GUI engine also…
Go FPC! It’s not just good for porting to multiple platforms, it can be used to WRITE platforms.
Nice, pitty about the SkyOS part *cough*
Nice application, it’s nice to see how portable is it.
It would be great if it run into the native GUI though.
Native widgetset will of course drop the application portability and will introduce different behaviour on every new platform (including hundreds of bugs). As far I know it is planned for v2.0 but it wasn’t decided yet.
> Nice application, it’s nice to see how portable is it.
> It would be great if it run into the native GUI though.
These two statements contradict each other. I’ve created a multiplatform application with native GUI once. I’ll do it never again, there is just no point.
Well there is a point, for fluidity of the user experience with the host OS, but for single person projects / development this is not always possible, as it adds complications to the mix.
But the point is Users prefer to have an application that blends in and works in a similar fashion to the OS that it is running in, opposed to sticking out like a saw thumb.
Really a nice application!
Nice to see it ported also in BeOS!
I wonder if they will also port it to Nokia 770. Might get some nice press for that.
There’s no they, there’s only one person doing this. If that Nokia 770 runs Linux and it is an ARM processor it is of course possible.
It’s running linux and is ARM based, so it should not be that big of a thing to do. More information on http://www.maemo.org.
