Belenix 0.4.3a has been released. “Another release of the LiveCD this month. The significant feature of this release is the inclusion of JDK 1.5 under the new Distributors License for Java as announced by Sun on May 16th in JavaOne. See the JDK Distros Project for more details.”
I cannot get it work on my laptop, neither works under qemu :/. But I’m still working on it, it may be cool to see OpenSolaris in action in LiveCD
Maybe you should give SchilliX http://schillix.berlios.de/ or Nexenta http://www.gnusolaris.org/ a try.
I’ve had better success with SchilliX than with Belenix.
Before installing Solaris, be sure the check the hardware compatibility list. Even the new distros are completely dependent on the drivers listed in the HCL. If it’s not listed, don’t bother installing. Even some devices that are listed are iffy, like some SATA cards.
Actually, even if your PC supports Solaris X86, belanix probably won’t work on it. I say this because I tried Belanix on more PCs than I can admit. It stops at various phases of the boot process. And this happens also on PCs that I knw support Solaris 10 x86.
The Belanix guys must be doing something very wrong, if it’s so hard to boot. And yes, the media from which I am trying to boot is the same that I use to put the Solaris 10 on. No difference there.
