Shell writers: “IBM recently shipped an enhancement to the DB2 Web services object runtime framework (WORF) to enable interoperability with .NET. This article showns you how to create a .NET C# client to consume a DB2 DADX Web service. The latest WORF improves the interoperability between DB2 DADX Web services and the Microsoft .NET platform.”
… sure, this may be interesting to some of us here, but does it really belong on OSNews as a news item?
Then again, the GTK 2.2 article probably didn’t either …
all those words are hurting my head!
Funny you should bring up the GTK2 thread
As I see it this story opens up a similar issue regarding who controls interoperability standards. In this case .NET is clearly property of Microsoft but I think it is very interesting that IBM is starting to show interest in the .NET platform. Look at the influence that IBM now has over the Java platform, I would welcome it if IBM had similar influence over .NET. That would make it a LOT harder for Micro$oft to pull any dirty tricks.
I recently heard that a judge ruled in favor of Sun and said that Microsoft will have to include Java in their OS. Wouldn’t it be interesting if MS decided that in a move to spite Sun they would use IBMs virtual machine. Then again they might choose it because it’s faster, but either way, it’s entirely feasable that Microsoft will borrow some of IBMs technology in the near future.

Future of Computing – that’s the big back door – OS probably is just the bait 8-)))
I recently heard that a judge ruled in favor of Sun and said that Microsoft will have to include Java in their OS.
It is just an injuction at this point, not a ruling.

I don’t think Sun would really care who’s JRE Microsoft shipped, as long as Java was supported on Windows by default.
I don’t understand the complaints regarding non-OS related articles. I’m just damn happy to have something to read.
Anyway, there are a lot of things that make up an OS and make it useful. The development tools and technologies available for creating software for any given OS are, at least in my opinion, relevant. For this reason I don’t see why the GTK 2.2 article and this article should not be candidates for posting on OSNews.
IBM is not supporting .NET, they are supporting their product WORF.
To see completely irrilated article here JUST TO PROMOTE .NET.
Guys, I understand that you are trying to promote it somehow, but the way of doing it is not posting every stupid news related with it.
Please open up a .NET section or something for the people who are interested in.
Sure I can skip to the next news bullet, as you can skip to the next message in this thread.
Cheers.
Deniz.
“”… sure, this may be interesting to some of us here, but does it really belong on OSNews as a news item? ”
wow…you must be a newbie…..oS news has been posting news like this for at least the past year…..get a clue….its not all OS related news….its OS, Hardware, development, web….etc…..open your mind dude.
Guys, I understand that you are trying to promote it somehow
I’ll check with my fellow editors, but last time I looked this secret plot to promote .NET.. doesn’t exisit. If you don’t like the news we post, that’s fine. However, please don’t accuse us of having some ulterior motive.
If there is no such plot, why are you posting such an item?
What is the significance of IBM’s adding some interface to their database to the .NET?
I can show you hundreds of news like this every month. What makes this news different?
Dont read the news then….also sniff ass CroanoN…you complain way to much….get out and get a life instead of complaining about a news site….you know you have lost your sense of life when you have to complain about this…..there is an outside….go there….enjoy yourself instead of complaining about a silly news posting…..life is to short. 🙂
If my cat farts and it sounds like “.NET”, you will make a news bullet from it. : ))))
No, I’m not a newbie here. But I hardly fancy this place as a programming tutorial link farm. Even if it were a press-release describing this stuff, that’d be fine. But a programming tutorial?
go play with yourself….loooossssseeeerrr…..get a life people…..if news sites control your life you have problems….if it really bothers you that much….why did you read it…..it clearly states .NET in the title…….duh. :-p
I want to hear about .NET, and OSNews.com is a good place for it. I also enjoy reading articles about Linux, etc.
I think the ulterior motive here is a bias AGAINST .NET and Microsoft by those who don’t want to see .NET stories.
I think the point and importance of this article is the emergence of web services technologies and the importance of interoperability to their viability. And before you say that Microsoft is just going to go their own way, they are a member of the web services consortium along with IBM, SAP, VeriSign, and some other companies, and interoperability is a primary goal.
I am not objecting for seing a news related with .NET. I am objecting to seing completely infinitesimal, unimportant, news just because it is related with .NET.
So, your assumption on my “ulterior motive” being “a bias AGAINST .NET and Microsoft” is completely wrong.
Cheers,
Deniz.
