Yes, G4 iBooks and AlBooks now have real suspend-to-ram support. I’m using the testing kernel that YDL put out this morning (2.6.9-1ydl) and it works almost perfectly – sometimes it goes right back asleep after opening the lid, but tapping the power button always brings it back. Working excellently here anyway.
When are Fedora (Red Hat) guys going to support G5, and is the sound working. Linux is good to play around with but small problems like sound not working, lack of video drivers and applications make me wonder if these guys really take PPC platform seriously. Anyways, most of the developers think they are doing us PPC (mac) users a big favor by bringing in poor ports of the exisiting windows/linux apps.
Will it work on PReP machines (let alone support such machines)? Or is it just a Mac-centric PPC distro? Otherwise I’d have to try it on my Beige G3/233. I have an IBM RS/6000 7043-140 (43P).
…Sleep support for the G4 iBooks and Powerbooks isn’t implemented upstream yet, but there are testing kernels available in RPM form…
what?!?! this means that I might be able to put to sleep my shiny brand new PB 15″? Or is it working only on old crap?
Anybody having more details?
cheers
Can I install Linux on an external firewire ( or USB? )
Hard Drive for the iBook G4???
No, I don’t want to install on the iBook’s internal HD
because it’s too small.

BTW, how is this Fedora Core for PowerPC
different from yellowdoglinux ???
Why not just use Yellow Dog? It’s already basically just Fedora for Macs anyhow. Or am I missing somthing?
YDL has old packages, it’s based on fc2.

@legrimpeur, again
Oh, and it works on the newest of the new – my iBook is a week old today. ATi only though, I think…
Yellowdog is simply doing what Redhat does, just use the stable more tested version of Fedora.
thanks for the information Kian. I was really waiting for this!
now if only support for airport extreme was there I would be really happy…
