Gnome "Here are my few suggestions to make better desktop (making it simple but powerful). Most of them are for GNOME and related applications but for other desktop environments and applications could be also useful. For instance you can't just double click on a text file, have it open in notepad, edit it and click save.

That doesn't mean that it isn't technically possible to make GNOME do that. Just because windows didn't manage to pull it off doesn't mean it can't be done.
