...is actually my preferred method, followed by multiple partitions on a single drive.

Yep, I agree with that. I swap hard drives on my Inspiron 1100 laptop. Fedora and Windows. Separate partitions on my Desktops(Xandros and Win 2000) and (Knoppmyth and WinXP).
