On the small hard disks, I used to buy those as a way to get drives on the cheap back when new ones used to be much more expensive, but I also found that they are incredibly slooow

Yes, I agree that the older drives are slow. But they're mainly for testing out alternative OSes - not necessarily using them extensively.

For more serious work, I use the newer larger drives - like a spare 60gb with 4 partitions.
