Michael Crider at Freesoftware Magazine has written a fine, detailed howto on using Mail Merge in OpenOffice, full of useful tips and screenshots. This is one of the better OpenOffice.org tutorials.

Tell me about it. It would be faster to just dump the contents of the spreadsheeet into an SQL DB and use a bit of PHP to do the merging.
