An intrepid hacker has got Windows 95 running on a Sony Playstation Portable. The PSP uses a MIPS R4000 CPU and Windows is actually running emulated on Bochs, so it's probably not that useable, and it's no substitute for the ongoing effort to get Linux running natively on the Sony gaming handheld.

An OSX security update includes fixes for the following: AppKit, BlueTooth, CoreFoundation, cups, Directory Services, HIToolBox, Kerberos, loginwindow, Mail, OpenSSL, QuartzComposerScreenSaver, Security Interface, Safari, X11, and zlib.

Knoppix, a Linux live CD, will boot a computer from the optical drive and give a slow but usable graphical user interface. The most recent version comes with Firefox and OpenOffice.org 2.0 Beta, so if you're already using the Windows equivalent, Knoppix is that much easier to pick up. This still leaves the question, what can be done on a computer without a hard drive?
