This Atari 1040ST is still in use after 36 years! Frans Bos bought this Atari in 1985 to run his camp site (Camping Böhmerwald). He wrote his own software over the years to manage his camp site, as well as reservations and the registration of the guests. He really likes the speed of the machine compared to newer computers. And 6 months every year the machine is on day and night.
I think the tag for ths is wrong, Atari ST shouldn’t be under the Amiga tag.
The war is over…
And the ST won as it is still in use for serious work! Haha.
Funny thing is, these days the Amiga side does more warring with themselves.
The amiga is heavily used to this day. AmigaOS 3 has hardware that is magnitudes better (as in faster) in fpga form like the vampire and lots of others and PPC boards like the port of the ppc libs to KillerNIC. And AmigaOS4 has both the ACube machines as well as the amiga X1000 and X50o0, Morphos runs on almost any G4 and G5 at this point and AROS runs just fine on most machines i have tried them on.
What does Atari have? MultiTOS runs fine on the Firebee, and it is one of my favourite computers. but i would say that when trying to browse the web or compile code it is both easier and a lot faster on any of my amiga machines (none are stock) are a lot faster. I even have the 1200 with the mediator and voodoo5, sblive and sonnet g4 card and it runs quake3 and lots of other games of a semi modern era. (i am not a gamer, though i like that the amiga with accelerators can run all infinity games (baldursgate 1,2 icewinddale 1,2, planescape torment and fallout 1,2)
@NaGERST
You know that EmuTOS runs on the Vampire, right? Also my Falcon with SuperVidel and CT60e is easily as fast as my 2 A4000s with 060s. Granted that thing is also running at 80mhz rather than the 50mhz that the Amigas are at. Though one of my A4000s has a PPC in it, it hasn’t been terribly stable running OS4.
But for sure, the Amiga, like always, has had better software support. There are many of the more modern ports that work on both.
Ha, see, the fight goes on!
If anything RiscOS won.
TOS/Mint came second.
Atari/Amiga werte not in the game! (and AmigaOS was picked over by vultures).
Would have been nice if TOS/Mint had been ported to other architectures. Imagine how snappy it’d be on a Ryzen…

I’ve always had a dream of porting the 68k branch of AROS to the Falcon.
A match made in heaven lol
Oh yes, a no-go, or even a NO-GO.
🙂
“Won?”
What is RISCOS used for these days?
Even in the early 90s it was mostly only ever used in some comprehensive schools.
My school didn’t have any Archimedes at all. Only 286’s and the odd RM Nimbus. Atari ST’s were used in the music suite. There were BBC’s and a couple of PET’s in a maths lab left over from the 80s.
Kids had Amigas at home.
This was common in the North of England. The only people I’ve ever spoken to that used Archimedes machines at school lived in “the south” (Anything below Manchester lol)
