“CodeWeavers and Linspire Wednesday jointly announced the release of CrossOver Office 5.0 for Linspire, a specially optimized version of the product for the Linspire Linux distribution. CrossOver Office enables Linspire users to run Windows applications natively from their Linspire desktop.”
I’d like to see some shots of this in action, a 1-click verison of COO could be pretty cool, just the thing to help edge linspire in.
I think they should bite the bullet, and integrate COO into the OS like Xandros did, plaster a big ol’ sticker on the box stating that certain Windows Programs work with Linspire, and perhaps list em on the back.
it would go a long way twords thier target market.
agree 100%
Cross Over on Xandros is way slick…
Unsure of the costs, but for about 50 USD you can get Xandros with a 30-day trial of Cross Over Office, I think it is about 100 USD to get the pro version that comes with Cross Over.
I’ve been wondering for a long time why Linspire didn’t seem to make their users more aware of CXO or make it a more integrated part of their product like what Xandros has. They’re going after the same market, and CXO can be a good product for hesitant Windows converts or complete newbies. It lets them get their feet wet without needing to jump into the deep end of the pool all at once.
If I can remember well, CrossoverOffice was created after the devorce of Lindows and the developers of wine, who later formed codeweavers.
Does that mean that they work together again?
Lindows divorced from Xandros, not Codeweavers or the WINE Project. See http://business.newsforge.com/business/04/05/07/1954206.shtml for the details.
IIRC their original plan was to build a distro based on Xandros Desktop with their own proprietary extensions (CNR), but this fell through shortly thereafter.
I remember hearing some rumours that Xandros was in hot waters with Codeweavers at the same time that they were alleged to have defaulted on the Lindows loan, but this appears to have blown over even if it was true in the first place.

Codeweavers and Lindows did divorce and it was apparently due to the desire of Lindows to keep some wine changes to themselves (proprietary) and not give back to the wine project.
Quiet might not be the best word but Linspire appears more and more like the distro I’d recommend to anyone because they basically take care of everything.
