“D-Link and Poul-Henning Kamp announced today that they have amicably resolved their dispute regarding access to Mr Kamp’s GPS.Dix.dk NTP Time Server site. D-Link’s existing products will have authorized access to Mr Kamp’s server, but all new D-Link products will not use the GPS.Dix.dk NTP time server. D-Link is dedicated to remaining a good corporate and network citizen.”

*When enough pressure is applied.
When It was about telling the world how D-Link was so bad and so on, he told the whole thing…. now that the issue has been solved all we get is a crippled footnote:
I’m cool, D-Link is cool, every one is cool.
That’s not fair.. I’d like to get all the flesh of the agreement. 😉

Don’t forget that the original reason his letter to D-Link was posted publicly was because he could find no other way to contact someone at D-Link with enough clout to get the problem fixed. He wasn’t trying to raise a storm (except in so far as it would catch the eye of someone at D-Link (he said so in the letter (don’t you believe him?))). So, though it may be voyeuristically disappointing, I guess not posting any details is reasonable on his part.
and they never responded. So much for PR. If I was him I would ban them outright, unless some money changed hands. Did DLink donate anything? What was the ammicable agreement? On saying that I like Dlink network gear (when they can keep their time which is very rarely) but DLink should be open and honest, something they are NOT doing.
Use pool.ntp.org
Their firmware is opensource, can somebody not patch it and release it out again so they dont use his NTP server?
Isnt that what OSS is about? If you dont like it change it. so quit whining and CHANGE IT.

I think the ideal solution in this case would be for D-Link to update all existing firmware that uses PHK’s NTP server to NOT use the server, and pay him some amount of money that will offset the costs they have incurred on him, as well as not releasing any future products that use his NTP server.
This way, over time the usage of his server dwindles, as some people update their firmware, new D-Link buyers don’t use it, and PHK is reimbursed for his bandwidth charges. Everyone is happy.
If they are doing a strictly feature for feature comparison they should include other browsers besides Firefox and IE7, Opera and Konqueror come to mind (i know konqueror is not on windows but it will most likely be with the insception of kde4).
I personally would take konqueror over firefox or ie7 any day of the week, i think it’s faster, feature rich, and very secure.
edit… i posted this in the wrong place, my bad

Don’t know if it is, but even if it is what would it help? Until a sufficient number off D-Link routers have the new firmware, it’ll make no noticeable difference what so ever.
