I think you’ll see wireless carriers partnering with several parties on all fronts. The goal in this uncertain environment to diversify risk. The agreement will certainly not lift MS to the crown of the wireless OS. It just means we’ll see some MS devices
Nonetheless, one has to seriously question MS’s position in the wireless, at least handset, world. There are several proprietary internal OSs and most every other OS for that segment is way leaner than that which MS offers. Phones and even smart devices/combo things are extremely cost sensitive. Extremely. Bloat need not apply. Plus who wants a phone that is crash prone.
I doubt people will see an MS phone as a comforting familiarity. Rather, i think they’ll feel like they are being followed from party to party by a pushy and unwanted suitor.
Microsft are pissed about major companies like Nokia choosing Symbian instead of their platform and are positioning themselves to retaliate. As before, those that suffer most down the road are consumers.
