In the SCO case a new order severely limits SCO’s claims. finding that 186 out of 294 items in SCO’s final disclosures are not up to the standard ordered by the court. IBM disputed 198 items for not being specific enough and the court granted the motion on 186 of the items limiting the case to 107 items.
What can I say besides SWEEEET! Of course, I just wonder if it is because SCO is that bad or that IBM is that good.
Aren’t they dead yet? Sheesh… get over it SCO, you lost. Nobody wants your openserver. (Did they really called it OpenServer?…lol)
ok they may be losing buisness but if they win even on a few c*nts thats ALOT of money heading their way
the outcome of this case will decide the outcome of the company…
Just a grazy & funny sco comic, collecting the money for doing all the hard work.

There was a story a few days ago that they’re looking for some new engineering talent for their UNIX products.
It may all be about maintaining the impression that they’re in it for the long haul – this lawsuit, and their product.
I have to wonder what the fallout is at this point, even if they win.
I’m kind of bored of it by now. I way more enjoyed hating SCO like a year ago. It’s kind of like the Simpsons, I guess. I like the Simpsons, but I think I’ve had enough.
Still, much like these stories, if nothing else is on, I can get my hate on just enough to just make it through another story about SCO’s antics.
This is not a reflection on the many people who write stories on SCO, but on SCO. Very little character development. If SCO was a sitcom, it would be Three’s Company. And right about now we’d go through the 8 thousandth double entendre bit, with Chrissy and Jack in the bathroom hanging curtains and Mr. Furley overhearing their conversation and thinking something lurid was going on.
Then again if SCO was a character on Three’s Company, they’d be Mr. Furley, or maybe Larry. Nah, probably Mr. Furley.
SCO, the Mr. Furley of UNIX companies.
Not really all that amusing anymore.
Much like the syndicated reruns of Three’s Company I wonder if this case will ever just go away.
SCO, the Mr. Furley of UNIX companies.
No way. SCO is totally Frank Burns from M*A*S*H. Whiny and underhanded. Belligerent. Arrogant. Clueless. Butt of all jokes. Never able to come out on top. Disruptive and annoying but ultimately harmless. And once gone, everybody continues about their business just fine.
I also consider Apple/Steve Jobs to be very much like Charles Emerson Winchester III, but maybe that’s just me.
You know, now that I think of it, you’re right.

“Exorcism”
gs: Virginia Ann Lee [ Kyong Ja ], James Canning [ Corporal Marsh ], Phillip Ahn [ Korean Grandfather ]
After Potter orders Radar to move a Korean spirit post believed to ward off evil spirits, things mysteriously begin to go wrong. When an old Korean man is brought into camp for medical attention, he refuses surgery unless the spirits in the camp are exorcised. A priestess is brought in, who exhibits her dance and her bells and chants. All is well, and Radar returns the spirit post to its original position.
–snip–
In one part of this episode, Hawkeye dramatically raises his hands and in a deep exorcist’s voice in front of, I think, the mess tent, and says, “EVIL SPIRITS, COME OUT!” or something to that effect, and at that exact moment, Frank Burns walks out of the tent.
That, to me, was the funniest moment in MASH.
Which brings me to SCO.
Has anyone attempted an exorcism of SCO yet? Or attempted to encircle it with the intention of levitating it? It would take a fair number of people, but not as many as it would take to levitate, say, the Pentagon.
It’d be pretty fantastic to have Max Von Sydow or someone who looks like him (or maybe just Torvalds) throwing holy water on the building – or Darl himself – yelling THE POWER OF CHRIST COMPELS YOU.
Maybe all of this is just the consequences of Darl playing with a ouija board and making nice with Captain Howdy.
It may well be that a simple exorcism is all SCO needs.
Maybe in the end, what SCO really needs most is the love of Jesus.
they haven’t been gone?
Then, for the last time, SCO, BE GONE! We don’t welcome you!
Ok… That was too much of ranting… sorry for wasting the time of people reading this and downloading this… haha…
Oh… and the legislation is getting a bit too slow isn’t it? (Thats the case with modern legislation… even for small countries cases can be delayed for a few years… Thats very bad!) (/me thinks there is a conspiracy to lengthen things…)
Both judges are being extremely careful to ensure both parties use the full legal process to make sure the final judgement is sound and pointless (for SCO) to appeal.
So discovery & all the motions took a very long time yet SCO meanwhile kept changing their case, contradicted the court & IBM with huge media lies. IBM & Novell have given lawyers a very positive image, doing it by the book and respecting the court.
According to Groklaw, PJ reckons Linux is basically out of the picture now, except for a TCP/IP claim and the residual case is about Dynix & AIX.
After IBM & Novell win, I hope they litgate the financial backers of SCO but somehow I’d expect the backers to settle out of court.
You’re thinking litigation, not legislation. Legislation is what politicians do, not sleazy lawyers and stock scam companies.
The large chunk of counts that were dropped, were dropped soley because SCO had no evidence to support them (or were too stupid to present it).
They claim that IBM and other Linux contributors directly stole code word-for-word from their UNIX code… but when asked what bits were stolen and evidence to prove it, they sit there tongue-tied.
SCO’s lawsuits against all the big guys WAS supposed to be an easy way to make money so they could patch up the sinking ship that is SCO company. Instead they got laughed all the way into the courtroom by IBM and their fellow accused for a long and very costly trial that SCO can’t afford to have and definately can’t afford to lose.
I’m with everyone else… Go away SCO… you are a bad joke getting worse.
On the bright side… some of these posts made me want to go watch M*A*S*H* again. Love that show.
…of MS bad investment !
It’s kind of refreshing to see pop culture geekdom in a technical forum, with it NOT being ‘YET ANOTHER’ Star Trek fest…
and I think you guys are giving SCO WAY too much credit – they’re not Frank Burns, at least he’s able to score… they are more like Colonel Flagg.
Somehow, I can picture the execs at SCO sitting in a room watching three stooges reruns, and sticking themselves with a cattle prod whenever they feel like laughing.
