Can anyone tell me if perl works on beta 3 or 4? Its kind of an important package seeing as how I can’t compile anything without it. Setup alwas crashes on perl so I had to uncheck it from the install.
P.S Oh yea and my sblive dosen’t work…. booo hooo…
Perl was working in beta3 and is still working in current Cooker (at least it seems so, I haven’t made any deep testing). I can’t say anything about beta4.
But of course if you really need a working perl or whatever, running a beta release distro is not advisable at all. For example the new thread support of Mandrake’s perl packages tiggered some errors in other perl-dependend packages which were thus broken. Those broken packages seem to be fixed in the meanwhile but such things are common in beta releases.
For some reason the perl package is corrupted on my cd. This is caused by who know what because I burned it in xcdroast and nero in winblows. I just hope I don’t have the same problem with the final.
Have you checked the md5sums? In 8.2RC times some mirrors had sklightly different versions of the ISO, which some FTP Tools didn’t detect: Result: A slightly corrupted image which works, but had some broken RPMS.
If you download ISO EVER check the md5sum before burning!

Wow, another witty person who says “winblows”. How funny these people are, I just can’t bear how damn amusing that is.. even after the 8000th time it’s been used! I mean, you’d think anybody who says that is a rejected, sad teenager, but nah, this guy is a damn comedian. I just cannot stop laughing.

Perl worked in Beta 3, not sure about beta 4. After all, most of Mandrake’s configuration trolls are in Perl. 😛
I wouldn’t worry so much about perl failing in beta releases, I would be more worried about preparing for the almost MS-style problems that happen after it is released properly.
When all is said and done, this is a joke distro for people who still live by the ‘if it is broke we will upgrade’ rule. Come on get a life people and just accept it will probably be considerably more broken come release, with all the last minute rubbish the throw in and take out to make PowerPack editions.

I haven’t used any MDK9 BETA, but I’m quite sure that perl works, since most of Mandrakes admin tools (DrakSomething) are written in Perl.

You may just be right. When I was installing some packages it warned me that some of the sigs were wrong.
You might have better luck if you actually buy it …

Why did they clutter up the control center like that?
It might look cool, but the standard kde are nice, easy and fast to use.
but i knew it was coming today or monday. they were talking about in the irc channel.
all i care about the new MCC is that the crystal theme no longer works for it now, damn
Is the next iteration of Gentoo linux due to come forth? (Just to stir the pot)

Good point there. Broken compiler anyone?
works fine for me, only an mplayer problem.
Anyone know if they have included the KDE 3.1 beta
in the latest mandrake beta?
No, Mandrake 9.0 will ship with KDE 3.0.3, not with KDE 3.1 beta.
