creating a livecd in my opinion has become a requirement for any system worth its salt. freebsd foundation should absorb and support freesbie.

Sorry, FreeSBIE is already integral part of FreeBSD and supported by the FreeBSD foundation, more is to come soon.
And yes, a LiveCD is essential for every free OS these days. You can use the FreeSBIE toolkit to create your own LiveCD btw, see http://www.freshports.org/sysutils/freesbie/
Nearly all projects based on FreeBSD with a LiveCD (RoFreeSBIE, DesktopBSD etc.) use this toolkit (except Frenzy for some reasons).

I have problem with mouse on FreeSBIE, actually no mouse at all… sysinstall says, you are not root user, so go away.. Is it so hard to detect mouse these days automatically? Works fine on every other FreeBSD distribution- PC-BSD and DesktopBSD.

Did you login as root or use the standard autologin user? I don’t know if this user is UID 0. To be sure, use su. Should not be a problem then.

Otherwise, try the “old fashioned” method to test:
# moused -d -f -p /dev/cuaa0 -t auto
Use /dev/psm0 for a PS/2 mouse or /dev/ums0 for an USB mouse. Be sure to specify the correct mouse type (see man moused for a list). By the way, USB mice should be autodetected and automatically setup via usbd.
