“In addition to Project Indiana Developer Preview 2, Solaris users can now rejoice over the next release in the Solaris Express Developer Edition family. SXDE 1/08 is the quarterly update to Sun’s next-generation Solaris Operating System that is built from the latest OpenSolaris Nevada technologies. This first SXDE release of 2008 brings a host of new features for the developer such as NetBeans 6.0 and the GlassFish v2 application server. Even for those that aren’t developers, SXDE 1/08 brings new features further down on the Solaris stack such as the Sun xVM virtualization server with support for libvirt, support for the 802.11n Intel 4965 wireless chipset, and a variety of new services.”
The main Sun site still points to the 2007 edition.
This link points to the 2008 edition: http://developers.sun.com/sxde
However, login seems to have broken, so can’t download yet. (maybe not a great advert for sun’s authentication systems, my account has worked for years before today!)
Login seems fine to me .. got in no problem … Mabey you hit a glitch ?
Also good to see a vmware image of this latest release ..
I found out why I my login to Sun’s site (to download Solaris Express DE 01/08) was denied. Apparently my name, details or company name resembles(but isn’t equal to) an entry in te DRPL – a list of terrorist names and organisations issues by the US government. Now how stupid is that. People who are serious about causing trouble will not provide their real or traceable identities. And so the people are are affected are largely the innocent public. Crazy. And so typical of many US attempts of security.
If you’re interested in more examples and analysis of how and why so many attempts at security succeed in mothing more than inconvenience .. look at Bruce Schnier’s newsletters.

Below is a snip from Sun’s email .. ridiculous!

This manual review is necessary because your name and/or address may be
similar to those of a party on the DRPL**, or your company or
organization name resembles an entity on the DRPL.
** The DRPL is a compilation of several lists of denied or restricted
entities or parties published by various U.S. Government agencies, which
include but are not limited to the Bureau of Industry and Security’s
Denial List, the Treasury Department’s Specially Designated Nationals
List, and the State Department’s Statutorily Debarred Parties.
