An emergency out-of-band update for patching the critical LNK vulnerability has been released by Microsoft. “The vulnerability exists because Windows incorrectly parses shortcuts in such a way that malicious code may be executed when the operating system displays the icon of a malicious shortcut file,” it says in the security bulletin.
No patch for Win2k. Time to polish those reverse-engineering skills…
Even if I think Win2K is one of the better Windows OS, it is long dead for support.

Extended support for Windows 2000 ceased only 3 weeks ago.

It’s typical, loads of trivial / minor updates over the last few months and then as soon as Windows 2000 support ends a massively critical issue like this comes to light.
