“Today, KDE has released a series of updates to the Plasma Desktop and Netbook workspaces, the KDE Applications and the KDE Platform. This update is the third in a series of monthly stabilization updates to the 4.5 series. 4.5.3 brings bugfixes and translation updates on top of KDE SC 4.5 series and is a recommended update for everyone running 4.5.2 or earlier versions. As the release only contains bugfixes and translation updates, it will be a safe and pleasant update for everyone. KDE SC 4 is already translated into more than 55 languages, with more to come.”
*checks updates* nope, *reloads package list* grrrr, *checks repos* bhaa, *checks updates* aarrgh! damn you Kubuntu I don’t want to wait!
I know it’ll be a day or so but I have the attention span of a goldfish and need the immidate gratifications.
hmmm…..better go check my updates.
..he he he ..i build from source and i have it running since two days ago ..
This release fix the only two bugs i was hitting in my day to day use and i am a happy KDE SC user!!! ..
I stopped using KDE SC from trunk couple of months ago. It seem so mature to me now that trunk isnt that interesting anymore.
I am sure i will read a development blog sooner or later that will compel me to go back to running from trunk but i just dont see what that will be at the moment.
Indeed.
Same thing here, though I only had to wait a few hours or something before my used arch mirror synchronosed.
In this case that was quite important for me though, as a recent update unrelated to KDE — one or two days ago — broke KDE for me. It constantly crashed and the only thing I could use was my devel account and start the programs for my normal account via ssh.^^
I have the following PPA’s enabled on Kubuntu 10.10 and 4.5.3 was available after an apt update and upgrade.
ppa:kubuntu-ppa
ppa:kubuntu-ppa/beta
ppa:kubuntu-ppa/backports
edit: Forget that, aptitude upgrade installed bits of 4.5.3, aptitude dist-upgrade wants to delete half of KDE. Will wait a bit longer methinks!

My laptop running Debian Sid is still at 4.4.5
One of these I might just wipe and install Kubuntu or Mint, but other then being slow to update it is nice and stable.
I tired of hearing that Debian is so stable. I think Debian’s stability is overrated. Every single distro I tried was stable. The difference is that some distros offer the latest software, some not. In the very rare case where you get burned by an update you can always fix it if you know your way around. So, why not enjoy the latest and the greatest?
Edit: This is from desktop perspective. Server is a different matter.

The latest and greatest is fine only if you have only one or two personal computers. Then you can use Sid. If you’re supposed to maintain dozens or hundreds of workstations, you want trouble-free.
You are lucky, sir
Each time I wanted to try a new release of a desktop distro on my old PC, I first tried it on a separate partition because there was a very high chance that something would break with the update. Generally in the graphics, Wi-Fi, or sound areas, where things are non-standard, and so less tested per chipset.
Sure, once linux runs, it’s extremely stable. But putting the CD in the drive and knowing for sure that it will work as long as the hardware works well for someone in the linux world… It’s a thing which only a few distros like Debian can provide.
