“Microsoft has breathlessly announced several new game titles for Windows Phone 8. And once again, Redmond continues to disappoint.” I’m lucky not to require too many applications, but this article still hits nails on heads.

Seriously? Who gives a shit about Hipstagram? If I sat down and made a list of all the apps I wanted on a phone, it wouldn’t even make the top 50. Or even the top 100. Or hell, not even the top 1000. Same with P-dis-Interest. I think the author of this article probably would’ve been happier if the iPhone 5 had actually been this:

Well a lot of people do care about Instagram and Pinterest.
I have much interest in those myself, but I wish they were on WP8, as that would draw users, which would make WP8 more attractive for developers, thus bringing more and better software.
Do they?
If it wasn’t for Hacker News (HN) posts, to this day I would be full unaware of those applications.
And HN has a big Hipster developer community.
Well I personally think they deserve it, they ignored their users, gave a middle finger to the beta devs, every pundit on the planet they were charging too much for unproven platforms, not to mention making a LOT of folks unhappy with Win 8 which will translate into people who will NOT buy WinPhones and winTabs, and what did they do? Blew everybody off, acted like all they had to do was release it and it would be Windows 95 all over again.
Well sorry Sparky, it ain’t 1995 anymore and you have competition which means those customers? You actually have to offer them something they WANT. you could have went smart, did like Apple and had a separate UI for mobile while making interconnectivity even easier than Apple but nope, thought you could sell on bling and a start screen.
Not gonna cut it, not in 2013, you gotta bring your A game but MSFT is acting like a bunch of PHBs, chasing buzzwords that went stale a year ago, two year old games nobody cares about anymore, instead of trying something truly new and different it all feels like ripoffs of last year’s ideas.
A lot of people gives a shit, obviously.

You != the world.
Where did the symbol != come from? Is it new? Old? I have been seeing it all over lately.
Pretty old…

Amusing comment, but a little to close to home i guess. if it was not for the TV show “workaholics” i would never have heard about instagram either. Good show though.
About 50-100 million people on Android
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.instagram.android
Probably a similar number on iOS
https://itunes.apple.com/app/instagram/id389801252
Altogether, an order of magnitude more than WP8’s entire installed base.
The WP UI is pretty awesome and everything seems to be turning Metro, all the action is in the Google camp while we’re waiting for Apple’s next move.
Microsoft needs new blood in it’s ranks. It’s been stalling for far too long.
Considering Win 8 makes Vista look like a smash hit “everything turning metro” is not only doubtful I’d say every company that is foolish enough to make their programs metro only will be looking at a flop. This is understandable when even usability experts say the OS is a mess..

Frankly this is something any retailer could tell you which is why it amazes me that MSFT is going “full moron ahead” With Vista Mk II, you had dang well better give your customers what they want if you have serious competition or at least have a DAMN good reason and selling point for why you are not, why? Because otherwise they go somewhere else.
The users have made it clear, Win 8 is a DO NOT WANT and it all comes down to the retarded UI. I’m making plenty extra just wiping Windows 8 for Win 7, I swear its almost a perfect repeat of Vista for XP. The sad part is they could have fixed it with maybe 300 LOC, simply have a full desktop instead of the gimped thing they have now and make metro optional and switchable, that’s all.
Instead Surface is a bomb, Win 8 a flop, their mobile numbers are pathetic and last I checked RIM was still ahead making them dead last and from the looks of Windows Blue not only did they not learn from their mistakes but they are giving a giant middle finger to their customers.
Ya know I never thought I’d say this but we may actually get the year of the Linux desktop, or at least the ChromeOS/Android one, NOT because somebody released such an incredible product they literally changed the game but because MSFT is gonna walk right out into the court square with a smile on its face, put the gun into their mouth and blow their brains out right then and there. Never before have I seen a company just kill itself like this, total madness. And all because Steve Ballmer would rather work in Cupertino than in Redmond. I swear you couldn’t have hired a plant better than Ballmer, he makes Elop at Nokia look like sound business strategy.
Whether MS succeeds in the phone market really isn’t up to MS. It depends on whether potential partners see a need for a third software ecosystem to compete with iOS and Android. My guess is that MS will succeed in spite of itself.
Its is very possible that negotiations for Temple Run began before TR2 was in the picture yet, and by the time that ball was really rolling, they were too deep into the dev cycle for them to change course.
Anyway, Microsoft’s ultimate goal should be to enable developers to make money. If you are an enabler to prosperity on your platform the developers will go. All of them. Not just one or two you buy off to make an app then forget about it.
Microsoft needs real, organic growth in their market and should be doing everything possible to reduce the amount of things in my way to making success, because their success is tied to mine and other developers.
The goal shouldn’t be to persuade Facebook to please port Instagram, or whatever the case may be, the goal should be to enable the next Instagram or Facebook or whatever on Windows Phone.
The value proposition of WP and Windows 8 is an untold story and that severely hurts Microsoft. They need to change the entire perception around their platforms, because when done correctly, you can make a great deal of money off of them.
So in short: Stop the stupid money dumps, and quit wasting time chasing companies that will do little more than token efforts, and start making Windows Phone attractive for developers.
Then you won’t have to beg, or pay them off, or write the apps for them. They will be drawn by your value proposition.
