“Google is offering major concessions on how it displays search results in Europe – including a better labeling of its own promoted content and displaying links to its competitors – to appease concerns it might be abusing its dominant market position, the European Union’s antitrust body said Thursday.” Smart. Takes the wind right out of Microsoft’s sails.
I don’t understand the editorial comment you’ve added Thom. It’s not a “smart” move, it’s a mandatory move. And I don’t get why this should take the proverbial wind out of Microsoft’s sales – this was exactly the sort of thing that Microsoft was hoping for (we all know that the damages the EU fines companies like MS – while being large numbers – are still insignificant compared to the funds the aforementioned companies have at their disposal.
Smart move as in, they didn’t wait for an official court order – they just implemented it ahead of that. That’s smart. And no, Microsoft is not happy with this – they have already started crying about this move too.
But why?
They’ve started crying about it? Have a link perhaps?
Bloomberg says so.

Microsoft was using the EU as a club. Microsoft threw a load of garbage at the wall to see what would stick. But Google easily side stepped it. What this did do though was bolster Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt.
