Amazon just announced the Fire TV stick, a cheap streaming media dongle, which looks a lot like Google’s Chromecast, and the Roku streaming stick. But there some important differences that might make each device slightly better suited to different people. More at Gizmodo.
Pretty cool. Hopefully HBOGo is added soon.
What OS is it running? If it’s Android you can run Limelight and play Steam games (assuming you have a GTX 7xx or higher).
I subscribe to Amazon Prime for the free shipping, and the Instant Video service is just a nice freebie. Ever since the Chromecast was announced, I was hoping to see support for Amazon Video added, as it’s the only streaming service I use.
Now this Fire TV Stick comes out, and Prime members can get it for $20 until Wednesday. At that price, it’s like a sore dick… you just can’t beat it
It’s on Kickstarter now and is based on Firefox OS.

I have a Chromecast that I’ve been playing around with at work and some of the recent changes to the Android app make things a lot nicer (like capturing the full screen). However, you still have to have a network and Internet access to use the Chromecast. The Matchstick is supposed to remove that limitation and allow you to cast (or fling in their terms) directly to the device once you’re connected to it (it can act as a hotspot). Ad hock for the win. The Matchstick is also supposed to be fully compatible with the Chromecast.
I suspect there will be many other options in the months to come.
