Plexuscom, a designer and manufactures of broadband Internet access solutions and appliances, has reached an agreement with Genesi Sarl to produce and deliver limited quantities of the PegasosPPC computer for release at CeBIT 2003. Genesi and Plexuscom will share a Booth at CeBIT, 12-19 March in Hannover, Germany. Read the specs and see the pictures at the morphos-news.de site.
Nice design.
“hundreds of different applications”
Heh. Sorry, found that funny.
Doesn’t mention a price anywhere…. anyone know? That looks like a pretty nice board, but it really looks to small to plug any PCI/APG cards into…
Certainly something I wouldn’t mind sitting on my desktop, if the price was right.
Bill
It would look even sweeter with an Apple Cinema display attached
> “hundreds of different applications”
They are mostly refering to Amiga software compatibility. MorphOS at a fundamental level is built upon a Quark microkernel, this microkernel has as much in common with the original Amiga Exec kernel as for instance QNX Neutrino or Mach.
However on top of this kernel they have hosted a reimplementation of the orginal Exec kernel. Most of the AmigaOS 3.1 API has also been reimplemented (ABOX), also by using large parts of AROS source code.
To see the Pegasos in combination with MorphOS in full action, here are some demonstration videos:

1) 4 ATA’s but are their any standard/supplied drives specifically Hard Drive and size?
2)what the price?
Looks like my DVD player.
But, can I run OS X on it?
Legally likely not in most countries. The EULA of MacOS prohibits its usage on non-Apple hardware
However technically it is already possible to use Mac-on-Linux in combination with Pegasos, AmigaOne and Terra Soft’s Linux solutions:
Here’s a screenshot of MacOS X running on the Pegasos:

Sharp machine!!
But yeah.. Whatsa price?
Don’t worry about the price. Buying one is next to impossiable. They are far behind on their orders. I have been trying to get one for the last 3 months and they are still trying to fill back orders.
Very nice article! I wish the best for the Genesi Inc.
Looks Schweet
Sounds like trying to get an Altair when it came out ๐

Sadly until now the Pegasos has only been available in very low quantities due to various reasons.
However there has been a rather interesting review done with regard to the Pegasos/MorphOS already. The article is written in French, but includes some interesting and extensive benchmark comparisons.

We will be offering the next batch of boards separately to developers for $299 through the Phoenix Developer Consortium (www.phinixi.com). We see Phoenix in a quasi-sourceforge relationship with Genesi.
The Pegasos in the new cases will only be offered fully configured through our designated distributors.
Please send questions or comments to [email protected]
Thanks,
R&B
Yes, but how much for that cool looking box in the picture?
@David
That the demand currently couldn’t satisfied has been just vbecause of
a supply shortfall regarding the northbridges (their competitors, who
have to use the same chips, had to face the same shortfall). But
regarding earlier public statements, Genesi expect to have the next
bigger quantity of NBs at their manufacturer about Feb 24 (all other
parts for the boards would be there already). Furthermore, in opposite
to their just redistributing competitors, Genesi are also
hardware-designers and manufacturers themselves, so that they’re
currently looking for using alternative NBs in case of further
shortfalls from MAI (who make the NBs and whose ATX reference design
board is distributed by Genesi’s competitors).
@those who worry about the little space
The above mentioned computer is just a special configuration. Of
course anyone can buy just the microATX-board itself and configure the
other parts just as he wishes.
Hi all! To enjoy Phoenix membership and a $299 Pegasos just email me with some details of ID, and dev interests. Send to:
[email protected]
The infrastructure to process requests and membership is not yet in place so we have to do it the old-fashioned labor intensive way. Phoenix is next on the list to get a makeover for a web-integrated communication and groupware development system (though we are already testing Tiki [http://tikiwiki.sourceforge.net/] after trying quite a few wikis, etc). We are likely to be integrating GForge [http://gforge.org/] as well.
I’ll process emails within a day or two of your email (at worst!) and you will be subscribed with your supplied email address to the Phoenix GENERAL and ANNOUNCEMENT mail lists, where you will be kept aware of purchase timeline details.
We plan to make Phoenix the campus and nexus for ALL THIRD-PARTY free and commercial development under on multiple OSes for Pegasos and future Genesi products. Within Phoenix’s long-held, expanded definition of “developer”, anyone who is able to contribute as webmaster, content provider, financier, entrepreneur, reseller, document builder, reporter/journalist, coder, leader, etc, is ELIGIBLE. Thus the mention of USER GROUPS : }
