The fate of Google Glass has been up in the air these past few months, as developers seem to have stopped paying attention to the new-age eyewear and Glasshole sightings have decreased significantly. But Glass isn’t done yet: Google’s announcing today Glass is “graduating” from the Google X experimental projects incubator to become its own independent division – a division that will report into Nest’s Tony Fadell. Current Glass head Ivy Ross will retain day-to-day authority, but she’ll report to Fadell. Nest itself will remain separate and independent, and Tony will still be in charge there as well.
If you can sell a thermostat and smoke detector, you can pretty much sell anything. Maybe Fadell knows what to do with Glass.
I thought that Google Glass was simply not interesting for the media to cover anymore because nothing new is going on over there and the shock-reactions are over
And I have never seen any Nest product in real life (are they even sold here in The Netherlands / Europe?)
It seems he only had 2 “smart” products, of which he had to recall 1 but sold it to Google because they needed a bigger hardware presence. All these products fall under “hype” for me, but I guess that is “cool” or “future” for others
Glad I’m not the only only how went “Nest? Tony Fadell? Is this supposed to mean anything to me?”
Smart home stuff has a large retail presence here in Canada. Nest is prominently displayed in hardware and home stores, along with other smart stuff like door locks, etc. Nest has done very well in North America. I think the standards are a bit different in Europe so I’m not sure if the thermostats even work there.
The tech is a loser.
Google just kinda stood there and took it, while the media just ripped the idea apart. Instead of finding simple fixes to many of its concerns, it just kinda stood there and took heat.
Somewhat similar to the segway. It just kinda sit there and let laws be passed to make sure it wouldn’t gain any traction.
