There’s lots of cool stuff over at NewMobileComputing today, as the CeBIT and CITA conferences are resulting in a lot of product and prototype rollouts. Some highlights: Mercedes and BMWs decked out with computers, a new Samsung watch phone close to production, Nextel handsets that speak 802.11, and RIM’s licensing deals. We need your help! NMC readers are so far not quite as opinionated as OSNews readers are, so we need some of you to visit and make comments on the articles and forums.
What a lame plug.
I use OSNews just because I don’t have time to go on other sites – this one has enough information I can browse in 15 minutes. One thing that annoys me although is that new articles are not necessary on the top, so I have to scroll down the screen.
New articles are on the top. Except 4-5 times a month, where we *might* need to reshuffle a few stories on purpose, for specific/different reasons each time. Like today’s Apple story for example. But 99,9% of the times, new stories ARE on top of the older ones, so there is no real issue here.
Here’s the deal: I think that once the conversation gets started, people are eager to make comments, but nobody wants to waste their time making comments on a site that nobody reads. Right now, NMC is just getting started out, and there are a few hundred people reading the site per day. But it kind of looks like a restaurant that nobody eats at right now. If you can’t count on OSNews readers to put their two cents in, who can you count on?
If you don’t think that the site has articles that you’re interested in, then fine, but I’m just hoping to get the conversation started.
I just posted a comment on the article ‘Sprint Readies CDMA Pocket PCs for Q2’… it’s a start.
You want to start conversation on what ? Mobile devices ?
What audience you are expecting to get – like those who read ZDNews ? People may read ZDNews but nobody discuss it. There are less people who think they are qualified enough to talk about mobile computing than people who think they can talk about Operating Systems. And if you’ve noticed OSNews forums are filled with newbies who get brushed on other places. Check what are most discussed articles here – new converts to Linux, Linux vs. Windows, MacOs vs. Windows, BeOS forever etc. OS fights without heavy punching. Now pretend the same about mobile computing – there is no fight over Windows CE vs. PalmOS – people use what they got for Christmas.
What do you want people to discuss – cellphones ? Thanks god, they work. How many newbies you expect to get there?
Nothing personnal, but I think you’re expecting too much.
Been there. Done it (Forums)
Hoping to get responses to my laptop query 🙂
does anyone have any idea on the linux port for the new dell pda? I think I’m getting one and I would really like to run linux on it or netbsd if I have to. Google came up dry.
