“Neat tricks and smart thinking move your multimedia data rapidly. FireWire is the de facto standard for connecting consumer electronics devices to computers. We’ve gone deep inside to show you how it works and why it’s so good at what it does.” Great article at ExtremeTech regarding the FireWire technology.
Interesting to see that DTCP is the preferred way of keeping studio pictures, PPV etc. from being copied between devices. So we get a DTCP chip in each device. Pretty cool – lets wait and see how long before little Johnny rips said chip off PCB, sticks it in his breadboard, hacks it for a few weeks, and voila – instant ‘break one break em all’ scenario. Wait for the HK guys to start releasing cheap PC-based firewire boxes that fool DTCP and let you pull data onto your PC for further hacking. I thought the MPAA had learned their lesson from the CSS fiasco. Obviously not, since only an idiot puts a firmware security chip into a consumer electronics device.
