OneStat: Mozilla browsers at 8.45% of usage share

OneStat today reported that Mozilla's browsers have a total global usage share of 8.45%. The total usage share of Mozilla increased more than 1 percent since Novermber 2004. Microsoft's Internet Explorer still dominates the global browser market with a global usage share of 87,28% which is 1.62% less as at the end of November 2004. Please note that OneStat seems to measure Mozilla's and Firefox's usage as one browser (however it differentiates Netscape and other Gecko browsers).

Experts predict Firefox spyware will show up this year

One of the main reasons for the Firefox browser's successful seizure of market share from Microsoft's Internet Explorer is the desire to escape the inundation of PC-slowing spyware. However, spyware experts indicate that with its increased popularity, Firefox itself will become a target for spyware creators, who are already poking at the open source browser alternative. Elsewhere, a new security hole found affecting most browsers except IE.

Mozilla readies Firefox 1.0 release

After 19 months of development, two name changes and more than 8 million downloads of its preview release, the Firefox browser is finally turning 1.0. Firefox is scheduled to be available for free download at 1 a.m. PDT Tuesday. Our Take: Sky's the limit. After Thunderbird (and third-party NVU & Mozilla-Calendar), I would love to see the Mozilla Project build a multi-IM application (ICQ, AIM/iChat, MSN, Y!, Jabber, etc) with the same design/usability goals as Firefox, coupled with good voice and video support (support which lacks on all third party multi-protocol IM solutions today). UPDATE: It's out.
