Bob Muglia, Microsoft’s senior vice president for Windows Server, on Thursday shed some light on the upcoming Windows Server 2003 R2 release during his keynote address at the Professional Developers Conference here. R2, which is due later this year, would bring features such as Services for Unix, the WS-Management standard, along with the next generation of the management console, MMC 3.0.
this is a very god thing. aside from windows 2000 (and 2003 is not far behind) this is the most stable windows platform ever. with the release or R2 i am very much looking forward to its increased stability as we,ll as MMC 3.0. but will it be updated for Itanium I wonder…
1) I find 2003 to be a much more stable platform than 2000 ever was.
2) There are no system updates to 2003 in R2.
I’d give up on Itanium quite frankly. Wait another few months and purchase a sexy 8 way galaxy machine from SUN Microsystems and load Windows 2003 R2 onto it. You’ll get the renound SUN stability and hardware reliability and the freedom to install and change at a later date, if you wish to move from Windows 2003 R2 to Linux or Solaris – or what ever happens to be the flavour of the month in the future.
the itanic sunk. even HP is disloyal to the monster it created. itanium was a good idea long ago, but better archs have died or become obscure.
ARM/x86/opteron and a smattering of PPC and a SPARC or two (niagra revived this) is about all that seems to be left.
