There are scores of others like Remote file explorer which allows one to directly edit a file residing in a remote location, better POSIX compatibility, Vim's own internal grep and so on which I have not covered here because this article is after all a visual walk through of the new features in Vim 7.0. More over, it is a sacrilege to compare Vi/Vim with any other editor except perhaps emacs.

Open source, closed minds huh?

Actually comparing Vim to notepad or other modern editors is foolish. Vim is a command driven editor like emacs as opposed to a mouse/menu driven one. Ed and ex are probably other editors in the same mould.

It's a different metaphor. Nothing to do with open source, but closed minds is prolly right. Once you use one of these editors it's hard switching to anything else.
