Considering how many industry giants have partnered with Microsoft in WMA and PlaysForSure it would appear that Microsoft is a leader in successful consumer electronics technology. That's not the case. All of these partners hooked up with Microsoft simply because they had no idea of what to do on their own. Few even experimented with their own independent technology plans; they simply picked Microsoft because the company seemed like a safe bet at delivering technology. They obviously didn't do their homework. The big secret they missed is that Microsoft hasn't ever earned significant profits in the consumer hardware business, nor has its executives proven any business acumen in delivering what consumers want in hardware or creative entertainment, excluding, of course, Microsoft's impressive and highly sophisticated keyboard and mouse division.

But the whole thing is still run by Geeks. How many CEOs would do a Matrix skit at their conferences? TabletPC (star trek fans)? I don't think there is a corporation that has that much geek in it than MS.
MS' stuff is great. You should learn to use their software instead of just brushing them to the side like that because of your negative emotional investment in MS.

IMHO Google must have more despite having less people overall.

If MS stuff was so great, you shouldn't have to learn their software so hard.
Up until today, I'm still aggravated with MS products at work (namely Outlook today, Windows zealots at work blaming me for an Outlook bug that recreate a directory and the options I deleted, at each Windows reboot).
I've known Windows before knowing Linux, and yet, I manage to have far less problems and have way more efficient and reliable products under Linux, all better than any MS product I ever used.
And I'm really annoyed by all the people like you that blame others because they can't blame products from the god MS.

I disagree.
If MS is run by geeks, then by Sales- and marketing geeks. They do not (by far) make "the best tools" whatsoever, but they DO know who and how to persuade to get their stuff sold. As an example, very few sysadmins I know would voluntarily put MS products on their servers. They do because they're told to by their managers who get fed bullshit by MS' sales machine who tries to convince them that they wouldn't be "compatible" or "up to date" if Windows/Exchange/SQL server/whatever wouldn't run on their system. "Get the fact"-FUD campaign, anyone?
